What's New in Unicode 17
Unicode 17 adds 8 new emoji and extends skin tone support to two emoji that never had it.
8 new emoji. Distorted Face, Fight Cloud, Hairy Creature, Orca, Landslide, Trombone, Treasure Chest, and Ballet Dancer.
Skin tones for Wrestlers and Bunny Ears. People Wrestling and People with Bunny Ears support skin tone modifiers, including mixed-tone duos in gender-neutral, men, and women forms.

Smileys
The full smiley collection is the headline visual change in JoyPixels 11. Every smile was redrawn from scratch with attention to the details even at small sizes. β¨

Gradients. Richer, more concentrated tones through every face.
Eyebrow shape. Reshaped for stronger expression at a glance.
Eye shapes. Refined curves and more consistent proportions across the set.
Smile details. Teeth highlights, tongue shading, and lip definition rebuilt from scratch.
Cast shadows. New drop shadows under teardrops, hands, sunglasses, and other forward features add depth.
Overall. Every smile reads with more depth and presence than the previous v10 designs.

The iconic shapes that make up smileys are still there but enhanced. The color is brighter and more vibrant with stronger silhouettes, and the detail holds at small sizes.
Although the smiley transformation is the headline, updates landed across the entire library for a complete upgrade.
Sports Balls
Every sports ball in the library was redrawn. Soccer ball, basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, rugby ball, and tennis ball now have sharper detail, more accurate stitching, and lighting that holds up at any size. β½

Hobbies, Games, and Medals
A handful of other activity emoji got a bigger visual pass. Flying disc, yo-yo, long drum, 1st place medal, military medal, boomerang, goal net, and ballet shoes were reworked to show cleaner shape work, bolder highlights, and stronger detail that increases their emoji readability. π₯

Sweets, Breakfast, and Drinks
Some of the most recognizable food emoji got a makeover. Lollipop, candy, chocolate bar, pancakes, waffle, bubble tea, sake, and sushi now serve up brighter color and more realistic detail that stays clear even at small sizes. π

Weather, Planets, and Nature
The nature emoji got some of the biggest updates. The cyclone, cloud, ringed planet, dashing away, wing, lotus, cactus, and nests now have cleaner forms, deeper color, and finer details. βοΈ

Cityscapes, Maps, and Skies
The scenic emoji were reworked for more depth. Cityscapes such as cityscape at dusk, sunrise, sunset, night with stars, moon viewing ceremony, world map, telescope, and Milky Way now show bolder contrast, more even lighting, and richer skies. π

Landmarks, Rides, and Symbols
Some of the most intricate travel emoji were rebuilt from the ground up. Tokyo Tower, Statue of Liberty, ferris wheel, fleur de lis, Moai, Syrian flag, trident, and roller coaster now have crisper silhouettes, more defined structure, and improved shapes that makes them easier to read. π‘

Tools, Keys, and Currency
Hardware got a tactile overhaul. Hammer and wrench, axe, kitchen knife, money bag, key, coin, balance scale, and crossed swords now show sharper edges, smoother metal, and stronger material detail. π οΈ

Celebration and Decor
Several other objects also got a tune up. Wrapped gift, nesting dolls, piΓ±ata, carp streamer, balloon, gem stone, diamond with a dot, and Japanese dolls now have added polish, refined color, and more accurate detail, in line with the current JoyPixels style. π

Characters, Apparel, and Headwear
A wide mix of character and smiley category emoji got the studio treatment. Clown, poo, ghost, bikini, gloves, cowboy, money mouth face, and military helmet now have improved form, color, and depth, bringing them in step with the new smiley style. π»

Science, Anatomy, and Home
